Recognizing how crucial sustainability is to the safety and security of society, the vinyl industry is now recovering more vinyl materials and incorporating them back into useful products. By doing so we are:

  • Extending the use of the embodied resources used in manufacturing a product.
  • Reducing waste discarded to landfill.
  • Fulfilling demand for high-performance PVC products.

The Vinyl Recycling Landscape Today

In 2020, the vinyl industry recycled more than 1.1 billion lbs of material in the U.S. and Canada. This amount is 100 million lbs over and above the amount recycled in 1998.

Vinyl Sustainability Council Recycling Goal: Increase post-consumer vinyl recycling 10% (equivalent to 15 million lbs) by 2025.

Through industry-wide collaboration the VSC is focusing efforts in these core areas:

  • Increasing the demand for recycled vinyl content in finished products.
  • making it easier and more cost-effective to collect and transport vinyl materials at the end of its life.
  • Encouraging investments of private and public funds for mechanical and molecular recycling.
  • Implementing pilot programs that identify scalable solutions to increase vinyl recycling.
