Changing the Narrative: PVC Membranes

The Deciding Factor: Carbon Neutrality
In coordination with Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) studies, IB Roof Systems developed a CO2 roof recovery calculator to determine when a white reflective roof will become carbon neutral compared to a dark roof.
With data from 249 cities, customers can enter a city, state, product color, square footage, and thickness. The calculator will then generate how many years, days, and months are needed to achieve carbon neutrality, as well as the years of avoided carbon emissions. IB Roof Systems partnered with Good Company, an environmental consultant, to verify the calculations. This makes IB Roof Systems’ product the only third party-verified roofing membrane that can become carbon neutral.
Relying on Research
IB Roof Systems partnered with Oregon State University beginning in 2022 to complete a research study focused on the ability to reuse raw materials after the end of a roof’s lifecycle. The study is focused on taking those raw materials and developing a PVC resin, meaning the same raw materials can be used indefinitely. IB Roof Systems is fully supplying the membrane material for the study, furthering the point that PVC roofing is resilient and long lasting.
