Making The World a Better Home
White Horse Village is the site of a sustainability initiative to recycle 140,000 square feet of scrapped vinyl, totaling 45,000 pounds of PVC vinyl siding. As a sponsor of the initiative, CertainTeed is piloting a closed loop recycling process. Bins full of vinyl scrap from White Horse Village renovations are transported to CertainTeed’s regional partner to crush and bale the material. Then, material is transported to CertainTeed’s PVC recycling partner for repurposing into raw material for new siding and other vinyl products.
Turning the Tide: Slashing Water Consumption
CertainTeed has installed a smart water submetering system and upgraded equipment at its siding plant in Jackson, Michigan. The system has reduced the site’s consumption of water by more than nine million gallons per year, a reduction of more than 50% compared to 2019 levels. This project supports Saint-Gobain’s global impact Grow and Impact strategy, which includes an ambitious goal of reducing the company’s industrial water withdrawal by 50% by 2030.
Powering Progress: The Path to Net Zero
CertainTeed Siding has achieved a 96% reduction (Scopes 1 & 2 only) in emissions from the manufacturing of polymer shakes, vinyl trim, millwork, and vinyl siding at its manufacturing facilities in McPherson, Kansas, Social Circle, Georgia, and Williamsport, Maryland, respectively. With fully electrified processes and 100% of the electricity used backed by renewable energy credits, CertainTeed is taking a leap forward toward reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
