What it Means to Be a +Vantage Vinyl Verified Company
Companies across the vinyl value chain are making individual contributions to improving their sustainable footprints. The vinyl industry recognizes that we can do more, together, than any of us can do alone. So we formed a Vinyl Sustainability Council (VSC) and established the +Vantage Vinyl Guiding Principles to set the direction and parameters for what companies strive to achieve over time.
Since then, we have been working as an industry to make specific progress on recycling, emissions, with people and communities —areas that designers, builders, retailers, and other stakeholders have said should be prioritized.
Verifying Vinyl Company ESG Commitments
In accordance with the Guiding Principles, +Vantage Vinyl verified companies raise the bar in their active efforts to deliver on their ESG commitments across 5 pillars of sustainability, environmental stewardship, social diligence, economic soundness, collaboration, and open communications . Their efforts are verified by an independent third party. +Vantage Vinyl is one of the first sustainability initiatives addressing an industry’s entire supply chain.
In addition to their commitment to continuous improvement, these companies are also reporting annually on their progress. In return, they are granted the right to use the +Vantage Vinyl mark on their products—offering assurances to designers, architects, builders, and other end users that these companies have met a high bar for sustainability.
Providing Transparency of the Vinyl Supply Chain
With companies throughout the vinyl supply chain verifying to +Vantage Vinyl, in the future, it will be possible to specify products whose entire supply chain has committed to this sustainability standard. That means third-party verification of sustainable business operations from raw materials to finished product, a level of transparency unavailable in most industries.
While +Vantage Vinyl is still a relatively new program, our goal over time is to make the +Vantage Vinyl mark ubiquitous with vinyl industry sustainability. Supply chains will always be big, global, and complex. But in the 21st century, there’s no reason they should be opaque too.
