Mannington Mills Takes Sustainability Initiatives to the Next Level

As a world leader in flooring manufacturing, Mannington Mills Inc. has strengthened its commitment to innovative product design solutions. To exemplify the mission of sustainable practices for customers, neighbors, and the environment, Mannington Mills embraces the four company values of care, do the right thing, work hard play hard, and control our own destiny.

Unveiling The Facts: Value Chain Chemical Management

Mannington Mills is committed to material health and transparency. As part of this pursuit, the company conducts an annual chemical inventory of domestically manufactured products. This serves as the basis for Mannington Mills’ product declarations, as well as optimization efforts to exclude chemicals of concern that are on watch lists or restricted lists. Examples are per-and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS), ortho-phthalates, lead, and chromium. In previous years, the Mannington Mills standard was at 1,000 parts-per million (ppm), a metric that measures the concentration of chemicals within the products. In 2023, the company implemented 100 ppm as its standard. The company is integrating this into its supply chain, eventually making this a mandatory practice.

A Look Beyond Operations

Mannington is committed to not only the decarbonization of its operations, but its line of products as well.  By substituting raw materials with bio-based or bio-attributed alternatives, Mannington Mills is working to infuse more sustainable materials into its product lines, reducing each product’s carbon footprint. In addition, Mannington Mills has set a target for net-zero emissions by 2050.

Investing in the Future: End of Life Solutions

With an effort to increase the development of end-of-life product solutions, Mannington Mills has carved out a plan that begins with an active reuse program for reclaimed carpet tile. In efforts to encourage active reuse, Mannington Mills partners with Build Reuse, a national network of building materials reuse organizations, that created an intake process for the Mannington Commercial sales force.  This network allows the team to work with designers to establish viable methods for organizations that are looking to redistribute material.

In addition, Mannington Mills participates in The Carpet America Recovery Effort, established to advance market-based solutions to increase landfill diversion and recycling of post-consumer carpet to encourage design for recyclability. Mannington is aiming to reclaim product and find diversion paths to providing authentic and sustainable solutions.
