Whitepaper – Designing for Disinfection: The Role of Material Selection
Since the start of the pandemic, Americans’ sense of cleanliness standards has been heightened and we are taking additional measures to stay safe. Frequent hand washing and sanitization, increased cleaning of high-touch surfaces like doorknobs and light switches, continued mask wearing, and six feet of space between individuals has become the normal part of our daily lives.
Selection of materials in the built environment plays an important role in ease of cleaning and disinfection and the procedures required to achieve safe indoor spaces. Making the optimal material choices can impact facility costs and longevity.
Recognizing this, the Vinyl Sustainability Council has published a resource to guide decision-makers in the design and operational considerations of public spaces.
The whitepaper, The Role of Material Selection in Cleaning and Disinfection of Public Spaces, provides information on cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting considerations regarding cleaning solution selection and the role that materials play in the successful design and operation of public facilities. Specific focus is placed on retail, hospitality, education, workplace, and restaurants and bars.
