What role do companies have in sustainability? How has Vinyl Sustainability Council membership helped shape your company’s sustainability initiatives?

Companies play a crucial role in sustainability by embedding environmental and social responsibility into their operations. This involves reducing environmental impacts of their operations and supply chains, addressing internal and external social issues, and fostering a culture of sustainability across the organization.

For Vestolit, membership in the Vinyl Sustainability Council (VSC) has been instrumental in shaping and strengthening our sustainability efforts. Through collaborative engagement, the VSC supports the development of a structured and strategic approach to sustainability. The VSC identifies key areas for improvement by using tools like Materiality Assessments to identify the areas where the vinyl industry overall can have the most meaningful impact on sustainability. This ensures that our sustainability initiatives are aligned with industry priorities and focused on driving the greatest possible value for our business, our stakeholders, and the environment.

Is sustainability an important consideration for your customers?

As a raw material supplier, we represent one of the earliest and most critical steps in the supply chain for our customers, many of whom have their own sustainability goals. The materials we provide serve as the foundation for products that often contribute to broader sustainability efforts across various sectors. Now more than ever, we are seeing an increase in demand from customers who challenge us to deliver solutions that help them, and their end users, move closer to achieving their environmental and social responsibility targets.

What do you wish your customers knew about your company’s sustainability initiatives?

At Orbia Polymer Solutions (Vestolit), sustainable operations are a key focus as we move into the future.    We have developed long-term strategies for decarbonization with short-term (2030) and long-term (2050+) goals.  As part of our commitment to responsible operations, we continue to pursue and implement projects to significantly reduce the amount of waste we send to landfills. In 2023, we strengthened our climate commitment by joining the US Department of Energy Better Climate Challenge, pledging to cut emissions from our US operations by 50% by 2030.   Vestolit’s approach to sustainability is comprehensive; extending from operating to the highest standards, to providing solutions that address today’s most urgent global challenges and making investments that generate lasting positive impact. Vestolit believes that advancing innovations that improve quality of life not only drives business success, but also creates social and economic value for all those connected with our operations. Our purpose-driven strategy to advance life around the world ensures that sustainability remains at the core of our business, guiding both our long-term vision and day-to-day decision making.

What role does +Vantage Vinyl verification play in your company’s sustainability commitments now and in the future?
Orbia Polymer Solutions (Vestolit) is actively embracing opportunities to apply circularity principles across its operations. Through initiatives that prioritize resource efficiency, waste reduction, and material reuse, we are working to close the loop and drive more sustainable production practices. Our participation in +Vantage Vinyl (+VV) reinforces this commitment. By providing third-party validation of our efforts, +VV not only enhances transparency but also aligns us with a community of like-minded sustainability leaders dedicated to advancing circular solutions within the vinyl industry. Importantly, this collaboration gives us valuable insight into where we stand in our sustainability journey, what the broader industry is striving towards, and how we can further strengthen our current systems. It helps us to identify opportunities to adopt new best practices and continuously improve our sustainability performance.
